Reiki (by Reiki Master Cat MacGillivray and Reiki Therapist Lisa Deick)
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy; an energy that is all around us guided for the purpose of healing. Re-discovered from ancient Buddhist roots by Mikao Usui is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that helps harmonise and balance the mind, body and spirit. It involves the transfer of divine energy from practitioner to patient, to enhance the body’s natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of energy. There is no belief system attached to Reiki; only the prerequisite to be treated.
Reiki can be excellent for physical and emotional healing. It is wonderful for personal growth and development and is suitable for all ages and types of people. In addition, many find that this therapy can help them change their lives. They report feeling greater self-confidence and inner peace. Whether Reiki is given in person or sent distantly it can help to reduce: anxiety, anger, blood-pressure, depression, joint pain, skin problems, sleep disturbances, stress and worry, increase: confidence, creativity, emotional healing, personal growth and relaxation, and improve: ve: communication, detoxification, immune defences, mental clarity and relationship problems / changes.
As Reiki can positively enhance all livings things, all of Ethereal Light's skincare, crystals and natural products in store are treated with it. This helps to increase all the natural therapeutic and holistic properties and provides additional healing and support for you.
How does Reiki work?
As a client, you do not need to remove any clothing during the treatment session; just lie down on the provided therapy couch and rest for an hour or so. The practitioner acts as a conduit for the universal energy, which is passed on to you during the therapy session through a series of hand positions, starting at the end and working down the body. Most of the hand positions do not touch the body; instead work just above your body. The healing energy will then flow to wherever it is needed for your greatest and highest good.
You may feel may feel slight tingling, warmth, cold and sometimes may even drift in to a relaxing sleep during the therapy. The positive effects of each Reiki treatment do not just last the session but continue to work for a long period of time. You will normally feel very relaxed, invigorated and / or lighter after each treatment.
Distant Reiki allows for flexibility as the healing energy can be sent to you wherever you without face-to-face contact - ideal for when you are on holiday or can't travel. Reiki energy is not restricted by time or space so it can be received anytime and anywhere around the world. This does however rely on your prior consent first. Once this has been given, a Reiki practitioner can scan for any aliments and imbalances that may exist and then work to cleanse and balance them.

What happens during and after the distance session?
The best way to receive distance Reiki is to find a comfortable place to lie down where you won’t be disturbed. Say in your head "I’m now ready to receive Reiki from Cat" and just relax. The session will normally last around an hour and be provided at a suitable date and time that we have agreed on. You could light some soothing incense or play some relaxing music throughout the session. It’s best to have a glass or two of water afterwards to help the detoxification process.
I'll send you feedback on the session by email on the same day where applicable. You'll receive the status of your seven chakras (energy centres) and because I am also an angelic channel, on some occasions you may also receive messages from your guardian angels, spirit guides or loved ones. If you would like me not to pass on such messages just let me know before the treatment.
My aim is to help with any issues (be they physical, emotional, spiritual etc) that may be troubling you, try to alleviate them and to bring balance and harmony in to your life and chakra system.

What are the seven chakras?
 Our bodies are made up of an electromagnetic energy (the Aura) and the flow of this energy affects our wellbeing. The chakras are energy portals directing and distributing this energy throughout our body.
There are seven major chakras running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, with each responsible for circulating energy to different organs, nerves and muscles.
Each chakra spins at a different frequency. When each revolves at its optimal frequency the body radiates perfect health; emotions are centred and balanced, and we enjoy a deep sense of peace. However, an unhealthy lifestyle / outlook and day-to-day worries can cause our chakras to fall out of frequency or worse still, become blocked. This causes a disruption to our bodies’ energy flow; leading to imbalances, increased incidence of dis-ease, feeling generally ‘under the weather’ and decreased emotional, physical and spiritual equilibriums.

The First Chakra: Base / Root Chakra is located at the base of the spine. It is linked to survival, our ability to ground ourselves and to keep our mind focused on physical & creative matters. Issues of insecurity and financial and personal worries can cause blocks in this centre. Symptoms of this blocked chakra may include aliments of the legs, hips, buttocks.

The Second Chakra: Sacral Chakra is located just below the navel. It is linked to sexuality, desires, digestive capacity and governs our relationships and social interactions with others. Lack of self-love can imbalance this centre. Symptoms of this blocked chakra may include bowel / bladder problems, lower back stiffness, reproductive aliments and irregular menstruation.

The Third Chakra: Solar Plexus Chakra is located just above the navel. This centre is the root of our emotional balance, personal power & metabolic energy. When we feel upset, angry or hurt we often feel this chakra. Thus, fear, anxiety and lack of self esteem and confidence can imbalance this centre. Symptoms of this blocked chakra may include digestive difficulties, liver problems, diabetes, nervous exhaustion and food allergies.

Fourth Chakra: Heart Chakra is located about 2-3 inches above the solar plexus in the centre of the chest. It is our love centre that controls expression of affection, compassion, feelings and thoughts. This centre is also responsible for the heart, circulatory and respiratory systems. Symptoms of this blocked chakra may include heart conditions, respiratory ailments, insomnia and upper back and shoulder problems.

Fifth Chakra: Throat Chakra is located in the centre of the throat and as the name suggests is linked with our thymus and thyroid glands, as well as communication and creativity. When you don’t speak truthfully of what is in your heart, these feelings build-up leading to communication blocks and an imbalance of this chakra. Symptoms may include a sore throat, thyroid dysfunctions, skin irritations, ear infections and back pain.

Sixth Chakra: Third Eye / Brow Chakra is located 1 inch above the centre of the eyebrows. This is our psychic centre, linked with intuition and awareness, but also governs our senses. In Rāja Yoga, we say it’s where the soul resides, linking us to the higher planes and astral worlds during mediation / dreaming. Symptoms of this blocked chakra may include headaches, mental confusion, depression, spinal dysfunctions, mood swings and eyestrain.

Seventh Chakra: Crown Chakra is located at the top of the head. It is linked to knowledge, intellect, inspiration and understanding. This chakra is our personal and spiritual connection to the universe, but is also responsible for our mental and nervous systems. Symptoms of this blocked chakra may include aliments of muscular and skeletal systems, chronic exhaustion not associated with physical issues and sensitivity to light and sound.

It is common to have one or more of your chakras out of balance at any given point. However, more obvious imbalances or blockages can have a huge effect on both our physical and mental wellbeing. You may be able to locate such blockages from the associated physical and behavioural symptoms discussed above for each energy centre, or you can use divination.

How to divine / dowse for chakra blockages?
Pendulums can you be used to highlight any imbalances or blockages of the chakras. You can either use them on yourselves whilst lying down on your back or on another whilst standing in front or behind them.
Place the pendulum directly over the crown chakra (the top of the head). The pendulum should swing in one of three ways: back and forth, side-to-side or in circles. Remember the type of swing and move the pendulum to the next chakra, the third eye (forehead). If the chakra is balanced the pendulum will swing in the opposite direction of the crown chakra or the circles will be reversed. Continue with each chakra down the line, e.g., throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral and base. If a chakra is balanced the pendulum will continue to reverse polarities. If it is out of balance the pendulum will swing in the wrong direction, or sometimes not at all.
I often use a crystal pendulum to dowse for chakra imbalances before a healing session, especially with new clients.
Both Reiki and crystals can be used to activate, energise, re-balance and un-block our chakra centres. Crystals in particular, contain similar energy vibrations to those that resonate within our chakras and thus can be used as ‘tuning forks’ to re-align our bodies’ vibrations as well as strengthen our Aura.

How does Reiki healing with Crystals work?
I persoanlly find one of the simplest and most effective ways to balance the whole chakra system and to clean and energise the aura is to combine Reiki with Crystal healing. I often recommend this type of healing to my patients when they are undertaking a detox period or going through a particularly difficult time. Both systems work on energy vibrations and coalesce very well to bring about a sense of wellbeing and harmony.
The colour of crystal is the key to its healing qualities. Each colour of crystal works best on its associated chakra. Listed below are some of the best crystals to use on each chakra:
1st Chakra – Black Obsidian/Tourmaline, Hematite, Smoky quartz, Onyx, Garnet
2nd Chakra – Red Jasper, Carnelian, Orange Calcite, Tiger’s Eye
3rd Chakra – Citrine, Amber, Golden Topaz, Yellow Calcite/Jasper
4th Chakra – Green Quartz/Aventurine, Rose Quartz, Jade, Rhodonite, Malachite
5th Chakra – Blue Lace agate, Aquamarine, Turquoise, Sodalite, Lapis Lazuli
6th Chakra – Amethyst, Fluortie, Labradorite, Zunzite, Sugilite, Sapphire
7th Chakra – White Howlite, Clear Quartz, Moonstone, Amethyst, Diamond |
For this type of healing, specifically tailored cleansed and positively charged crystals may be added on and around you with Reiki channelled as normal. Crystals may also be placed on a particular chakra to give the energy centre(s) a boost and to activate and promote balance to the system, as well as help clear any blocked or negative energy held within the Aura.

How to cleanse and program your Crystals?
 Crystals may have been held by many people each contributing their vibrations to it before you receive it. These vibrations need to be defused to restore the crystal to its original clarity to allow you to impress your own pure intentions upon it. It is recommended that you carry out cleansing and programming regularly, especially if your crystals are used for healing. A crystal with imbalances or energetic static can be detected by a feeling of heaviness or unpleasantness.
There are many ways to cleanse your crystals. The most common is to hold them under running cold water whilst imagining any negative energy being washed away, and then to dry them naturally in sunlight and / or overnight to bask in the moonlight. This is not recommended for stones susceptible to fading, e.g., Amethyst, Aventurine, Citrine, Rose Quartz and Smokey Quartz. Alternatively, you can use incense – hold the crystal within the smoke while impressing your intention upon it and imagine the crystal being filled with purified, positive energy. Clear Quartz & Citrine are also universal cleansers – place these in the middle of your other stones for a few hours and they will all emerge completely energised.
Once your crystal has been cleansed you will need to program it by filling it with positive, loving energy as well as giving it a specific purpose or intention if you wish. To do this, hold your crystal in both hands and relax for a few minutes while gazing upon it. Imagine or try to visualise a brilliant golden light sweeping through the crystal, taking with it any residual negative energies and filling it with light, love and positive energy. While doing this, think about what you want to program into the crystal. Deep breathe and as you inhale see a visual image of what you want and imagine how it feels to have it. With each exhale send your desire into the crystal. Once you can clearly visualize what you want your intention is now programmed into the crystal. This vibration is stored there until you replace it with a new intention. (Make sure to always thank the crystal too!)
